The Statue of Liberty’s ‘little sister’ sets sail from Le Havre, bound for New York

The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in shipping and logistics, has been working in partnership with the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (Cnam) and the French Embassy in the USA on the transport of a bronze replica of the Statue of Liberty that stands nearly three metres tall and was produced from the 1878 plaster original by Auguste Bartholdi. In Le Havre, the statue was taken on board the CMA CGM NERVAL, a 300m ship capable of carrying 6,500 TEUs.

The statue will travel to New York on CMA CGM’s Liberty Bridge service, an emblematic line linking northern Europe to the east coast of the United States.
The little sister of Lady Liberty will arrive in New York on June 30th, before being installed on Ellis Island, opposite her big sister, where she will be on public display for Independence Day on 4 July. She will be taken overland by CEVA Logistics, a CMA CGM Group subsidiary, to her final destination, the Residence of the French Ambassador to Washington DC, where she will be unveiled and put on public display on July 14th.
