The CMA CGM Group has always considered its business performance as intrinsically linked to its social and environmental performance. Committed to being carbon neutral by 2050, the Group has implemented concrete and pioneering measures to achieve this goal.

With ACT with CMA CGM+, the CMA CGM Group allows its customers to also be involved in the energy transition in shipping. With this range of services, they benefit from a series of solutions to reduce the environmental impact of their shipping.

Launched in November 2020, this range of value-added services has already been chosen by thousands of the Group’s customers, who can now choose more environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional fuel:

  • Biofuel: a second-generation biofuel that reduces carbon dioxide emissions generated by shipping by at least 85%. By choosing the CLEANER ENERGY biofuel solution, customers are opting for the lowest carbon-intensive energy available.
  • Liquefied Natural Gas: a pioneering choice and the best solution for protecting air quality. It also offers an initial means of helping to combat global warming. With CLEANER ENERGY LNG, customers can manage their emissions.

Services available to all Group customers on all shipping routes

How is the Group able to offer these solutions to all its customers, while just some of its ships are currently powered by biofuel or LNG? Thanks to the Mass Balance Concept!

The Mass Balance Concept is a solution that makes it possible to use several types of energy within the ship fleet and attribute them to different shipments, up to the quantities actually used. This means customers can choose the type of energy attributed to them, regardless of which ship is carrying their goods. This facilitates the energy transition of the shipping industry and helps to develop the use of these alternative fuels by making them available to all Group customers.
